The Department of Health has confirmed a further five cases of swine flu in Northern Ireland.

Two are understood to be travel-related, while the other three are people who were in contact with other patients.

It brings the total number of confirmed cases here to 43 - a further 23 are under investigation.

It is understood one of the new cases is in the north-west.

The patient was treated at Altnagelvin hospital before being allowed to return home.

Derry City Councillor Mark H Durkan has called on people in the city to be vigilant in order to prevent the further spread of the disease.

"This case has shocked the people of Derry and wider community," he said.

"While I welcome the Department of Health's proactive approach in dealing with the pandemic, I would urge people not to be complacent.

"If anyone has concerns about the virus or requires further information I would advise them to contact their GP."
