A Co Tyrone fisherman has said he was shocked to find a dolphin in the River Foyle in Strabane.

Danny Hunter spotted the animal while out walking along the banks of the river with his son on Sunday afternoon.

The fisherman, who runs local fishery Woodside Angling, said he was shocked to find a dolphin so far away from sea.

He told UTV: "It was close to the Lifford Bridge just off the Old Bog Road - which is about 35 miles away from the nearest sea.

"I heard this breathing noise and at first I thought it was a diver, but then I saw a dolphin swimming in the water.

"I was shocked, you would not think to ever see a dolphin at all in the Foyle, especially off the Boghill Road in Strabane.

"It looks like it is trapped and can't get out until the water rises."

I believe that the cetacean in question here is a harbour porpoise not a dolphin.

I have often seen dolphins in the Foyle as far up as Craigavon bridge. Seals have been known to pup as far up as the boathouse. There are otters in the same vicinity

There have a couple of these spotted the past few weeks between the Castlerock and Portstewart piers at the mouth of the River Bann

Interesting news. One recommendation, given that many people, like me, search in google to find information on a specific topic, it would be very helpful, if somewhere on the news, the country (not only the county and area) could be mentioned. This article could be read from anywhere in the world, and having that info would certainly help. Cheers
