A member of the public alerted the Northern Ireland Fire Service to the blaze at Laharna Retail Park at Circular Road in the Co Antrim town just before 4am on Sunday.

Responding crews called in extra resources after they found the fire had spread to the building.

Fire crews in eight appliances and a command unit were involved in bringing the situation under control.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.

Assistant Group Commander John Bacon said: "The incident had to be resourced quite extensively in order to bring the fire under control and stop the fire from spreading to the other retail units in the block.

"It's down to the quick actions of the two Larne appliances initially in attendance, that we were able to bring it under control. The result of which is that only two of the units have been affected."

Some crew members along with PSNI and building control remained at the scene, carrying out investigations and assessing safety conditions.
