Fire at bookmakers in Derry

Police and the Fire Service are investigating an overnight blaze which severely damaged a bookmakers in the Creggan area of Derry.

It broke out at the premises on Central Drive shortly after 4am on Wednesday.

Three appliances from Northland Fire Station attended.

A NI Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "Fire Crews dealt with rubbish on fire sitting against a commercial premises. Severe structural damage was caused to the roof of the building.

"Early indications would suggest the fire was deliberate and an investigation is now under way. The incident was dealt with by 6.12am."

A statement from the PSNI said:"Cause has not yet been definitively determined however it's believed the fire may have been started deliberately."
