Official figures have not yet been released, but the number of people hitting the shops is reported to be up on last year.
Management at Victoria Square in Belfast said the number of shoppers was a third up on Boxing Day last year.
In the week leading up to Christmas, sales at House of Fraser in Belfast exceeded those of its counterpart in London's Oxford Street.
"Christmas has been a huge success for us," said Andrew Irvine from Belfast City Centre Management.
"And it looks as if the sales are doing well for us as well - about 12% up on last year," he added.
Commentators have observed the city has witnessed a growth in business that few, if any, centres have managed to match this Christmas.
Londonderry also saw strong trade in the same period - over a third of a million shoppers visited the Foyleside Centre.
