The pair had been camping on Ben Crom when they got into difficulty after weather conditions deteriorated.
Their family raised the alarm on Monday afternoon when they failed to return home.
The Mourne Mountain Rescue Team and the Coastguard were tasked to the scene and following a lengthy search the father and son were located.
They were taken down from the mountain on Tuesday morning at around 5am.
A spokesman for the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team said the pair were not injured and described their conditions as "fine".
It is thought the man and his son are from the Belfast area.
The Coastguard has urged people to be prepared for a change in conditions when attempting to climb difficult terrain.
