A family of four have escaped injury in a petrol bomb attack at their home in Newtownabbey.

The incident happened at the property in Cairnhill Drive in the Ballyduff estate at around 10.30pm on Thursday night.

It is thought the device was thrown from nearby Cairnhill Parade.

The petrol bomb caused scorch damage to the roof of the house.

The family, a couple and their two young children, were in bed at the time of the incident.

Police have appealed for information.
