Family in shock after armed robbery

A gang of four armed and masked men have threatened to kill a west Belfast family during a robbery at their home.

Wednesday, 10 February 2010

The robbers forced their way into the house at Glencolin Walk at around 10pm on Tuesday night.

Two of them were armed with handguns while a third was carrying a sawn-off shotgun.

A man and a woman, aged in their fifties, and their grand-daughter were locked in a bedroom for over an hour while the gang ransacked the house.

The family, who have spoken to UTV but don't want to be identified, said they have been left terrified by the ordeal.

"They got my granny to open the door and brought me into the room, taking my phone off me and telling me to sit there and look at the ground. I was crying," the 17-year-old girl told UTV.

"They said if we find anything we will shoot you dead for making us look", her grand-mother explained.

"At the end of it they said: 'If you get in touch with anybody within the next half hour we will come back and shoot you dead."

The gang made off with around £1,000 in savings and mobile phones.

The family eventually managed to free themselves and contact police.

Detectives have appealed for anyone with information about the robbery to contact them.

This was a terrible ordeal for this family to have to endure. These scum should be identified, taken off the street for good with no hope of remission.
