Security alert underway in north Belfast
Ten families have been evacuated from their homes in north Belfast because of a security alert.

The Oldpark Road was closed between Rosapenna Street and Churchview Court on Thursday evening after a suspicious object was found shortly before 8pm close to Ardoyne Avenue.

Army bomb experts were called at the scene.

A nearby Parochial Hall has been made available for the families.

On Wednesday, a major security operation was triggered by a pipe bomb attack near Old Park barracks.

Dozens of families were also temporarily evacuated after the small explosion caused minor damage to perimeter fencing at the back of the police station.

It has been reported that the "Real IRA Belfast brigade" admitted responsibility for the attack.
