Extra time to question McConville suspect

Police have been granted extra time to question a pensioner over the 1972 abduction and murder of widow and mother-of-10 Jean McConville.

A 77-year-old man was arrested in west Belfast on Tuesday by detectives from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch.The suspect was taken to the Serious Crime Suite in Antrim for questioning.On Thursday, a court granted the PSNI until Friday night to question the man.Mrs McConville was kidnapped from her flat in the Divis area in December 1972 and shot by the IRA.The 37-year-old's body was not recovered until years later, when it when it was found on a beach in Co Louth in August 2003.
