Explosion at Derry house 'pipe bomb'
Police have launched an investigation after a pipe bomb exploded at a house in Co Londonderry.

The incident happened at a property in Glengalliagh Park in the Galliagh area, at 11.30pm on Tuesday night.

No-one was home at the time and no-one was injured, but extensive damage was caused to the property.

Police have said they are treating the attack as attempted murder.

A search of the property has taken place and the remains of an explosive device removed for forensic examination.

The Chair of the Derry District Policing Partnership, Elisha McLaughlin, said the pipe bomb device was thrown at the front of the property.

"It was detonated in a built up area and caused substantial damage to the house and could have caused serious injury to anyone in the vicinity of the blast at that time," she said.

"I am making it clear to those responsible that the community does not want this and those behind it need to stop."
