An overnight security alert in east Belfast has turned out to be a hoax.

A number of houses were evacuated at Kinross Avenue, Tullycarnet, following reports of a suspicious object at around 10.55pm on Monday.

The army bomb squad carried out an investigation and declared the object a hoax.

Police said they left the scene at 3.30am on Tuesday.
