Elderly woman in hospital after mugging

An elderly woman has been taken to hospital after she was knocked to the ground during a mugging in Newtownards.

The 86-year-old was pushed over and had her handbag stolen by a man in the Donaghadee Road and Corporation North area of the town, shortly after 1.15pm on Wednesday.

She is receiving treatment for injuries which police said are not believed to be life threatening at this stage.

The attacker has been described as having dark hair and was wearing a blue coat.

Anyone who witnessed the attack has been asked to contact the PSNI.

An elderly aunt of mine was mugged a few years ago, she never got over the shock and died of heart failure a few days after the attack. No-one was ever caught or arrested for it. I hope the lady makes a full recovery.

I have never been so disgusted in my life of reading about this poor woman of 86 being treated like this by some sick person here in Newtownards! I hope justice will be done and the woman recovers quickly! Donaghadee Rd is a busy road so how someone didnt see this happen is beyond me!
