It happened in the Conway Walk area of the city in the early hours of Thursday.

A masked man got into the house and forced the elderly victim to the floor before taking money from his wallet and making off.

Police have appealed for information on the incident, which happened at around 12.15am.

Alliance Councillor John Blair has condemned the robbery, describing it as "absolutely disgraceful."

"I know I am speaking on behalf of all residents when I wholeheartedly condemn this incident.

"The person behind this callous attack has absolutely no respect for the elderly population in north Belfast. They must be apprehended and brought before the courts."

He added:"This behaviour will not be tolerated."
