Five men entered the house at Loughside Drive on Monday at around 8.15pm.
The gang, one of whom was armed with a screwdriver, confronted three people who were in a rear bedroom - an 80-year-old woman, a 76-year-old man and a man in his 40s.
One of the burglars kept the family in the room while the others began to search the property.
Another man in his 40s, who had been in an upstairs bedroom at the time, was then brought downstairs by the intruders and was held with the rest of the family in the rear bedroom.
After searching through the house, the gang made off with a sum of cash through an unlocked rear door.
Police said no one was seriously hurt in the incident but the occupants were left badly shaken by the ordeal.
A spokesman added: "This was a terrifying ordeal which no one should experience in their own home."
It is understood all of the men involved had their faces hidden with scarves and baseball caps. It is believed one of them spoke with an English accent.
Investigating officers want to speak with anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the Loughside Drive area on Monday night around the time of the burglary.
