Elderly couple mugged in Newtownards

An elderly couple have been left shaken after they were mugged at knifepoint in Newtownards, Co Down.

The pair were walking in the Shackletown Walk area on Saturday before 8.30am when they were approached by two masked men.

It is believed they threatened the couple with a knife and then made off from the area with a handbag.

The man and woman were not injured during the incident but were left badly shaken.

The two males are described as wearing dark clothing and both men were believed to have been wearing balaclavas.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area to contact them at Newtownards CID on the non-emergency number 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
