Elderly couple burgled in Newry home

An elderly couple have been left shaken following a burglary at their Newry home.

The incident happened at the property in the Newtown Road area shortly after midnight on Sunday.

Two men, one of whom was carrying an iron bar and another who had a torch, forced their way into the couple's bedroom and demanded money.

They made off with a handbag containing a sum of cash.

One of the men is described as being approximately 25 to 30 years old, around 5' 8" tall, of slim build and with fair hair cut short but not shaven.

He spoke with a local Newry accent.

The second man was slightly smaller and of heavier build, with fair hair and a fair complexion.

Detectives have appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information to contact them at Ardmore Police Station on the non-emergency number 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
