According to the Purchasing Managers Index, the past month saw the sharpest rise in output since March 2004 - with growth in both activities and new orders.
The service sector saw the largest gains but manufacturing and construction also benefited.
Inflation in NI remained faster than the rest of the UK, and respondents indicated that higher salary payments and increased energy costs had been the main causes of rising input prices.
The growth in activity was the second fastest in the PMI survey's 11-year-history.
