A security alert in west Belfast has been described by police as "an elaborate hoax."

A suspicious object was discovered outside a house in the Summerhill Walk area of Dunmurry on Tuesday afternoon causing police to evacuate several homes.

Army bomb squad officers attended the scene and carried out a controlled explosion.

A police statement said: "All evacuated residents have been allowed to return to their homes.

"The object has been taken away for further forensic examination."

Police are appealing to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the Summerhill Walk area to contact them.

Its nice to learn something new. I have been a taxi driver for years and could have sworn Summerhill Walk was in Twinbrook. Why is it Twinbrook, Poleglass and Lagmore always get referred to as Dunmurry?
