Two masked men fired shots at a car and house in the Arches area of Dungiven just before 10pm on Monday.

Mayor of Limavady, Sean McGlinchey said the attack was upsetting for people in the area.

"There was a lot of people about, distressed and crying. They said they thought they heard shots fired and saw men running away.

The woman was at home at the time of the attack, but her mother was in the front room, alone.

"It was very traumatic for her and her daughter was very upset," said Mr McGlinchey.

"They don't know why it happened."

The woman has lived in the house for two years but is now considering going back to Scotland.

The two gunmen made off in a silver BMW.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the shooting, or seen the car in the area at around the time, to come forward and assist them with their investigation.
