The man and woman were detained in the Co Tyrone town by PSNI and Revenue and Customs officers on Monday morning.

Officials searched two properties and seized computers and business records.

John Whiting from the HMRC said: "Our action sends a clear message to anyone tempted to become involved in crimes against our tax system.

"We take fraud extremely seriously and are committed to targeting those attempting to line their own pockets at the expense of the taxpayer."

The couple have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Police said investigations are continuing and anyone with information is asked to come forward.

B, you're an idiot. No names mentioned, no direct accusation of guilt, a general comment to "anyone tempted". Can you tell me where the "judgement as to their guilt" is in this story? Any defence will be more interested in the facts of the matter....

people are too quick to bash the bankers. Most peoples financial problems were caused be reckless borrowing from banks to fuel a bubble housing boom. The bankers made wreckless investments based on flawed assumptions but that is a long way from a crime, unlike (alleged) tax evasion

surely mr. whiting should know that this couple should be afforded the right to defend themselves in a court of law rather than him make judgements as to their guilt if this case makes it to court i am sure the defence will be interested in his comments he should know better than to prejudice any possible fothcoming charges innocent until proven guilty mr whiting . CPS TAKE NOTE

It's a pity that they wouldn't go after the bankers that brought this country to its knees with their reckless investments and dealings!!
