The victim, 48, was cycling along Gateway Avenue in Ballymun when he was hit a number of times by a lone gunman at around 8.45am on Tuesday.

A statement from An Garda Síochána said: "It is believed this male cycled along the footpath, approached and shot the deceased in the upper torso area before cycling away from the scene in the direction of Ballymun road.

"He was said to be wearing a baseball cap and high visibility jacket at the time of the incident."

Mr O'Regan was taken to the Mater Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Gardaí have commenced a murder investigation and an incident room has been established at Ballymun Garda Station. An examination of the scene is ongoing and a liaison officer has been assigned to the family of the deceased.

Investigating officers are asking anyone who saw the gunman, or who may have further information, to get in touch.
