Residents in the Ballymacool area of the Co Donegal town say up to 60 homes have been targeted, leaving locals scared to go out of their homes.

"I just want it to stop because... I really don't know now whether to go out at night," explained Kay McGlynn.

"If I go out and they're doing this, and me out visiting my family, will I get back in again...?"

Those carrying out the attacks have also glued the locks on car doors and boots.

Tony Diver found his car was just one of those vandalised.

"I checked the rest of the car and I found the boot was absolutely covered. And then at this stage I managed to get in the passenger side and I ended up kicking the door to release it because the rubber and all was sealed," he told UTV.

Residents say they do not know who is behind the glue incidents, but they want them to stop.

"There's a woman down there and she's not well, and she had to climb over her back wall," explained Noreen McKeever, "and she's getting chemo and she was in a bad way. She was locked in the house and she couldn't open the door at all."

For others, they are worried about what would happen if there was a house fire as it would be impossible to get out if their doors were glued shut.

Annie Walker said: "A mattress was set on fire down at the bottom. All our back is full of oil tanks and if one of them had been set on fire, then...."

Garda have examined the scenes at Ballymacool and they are keen to catch the glue gang before they strike again.

Such stupid and dangerous behaviour needs to be stopped. I feel vey sorry for the families subjected to this behaviour and especially I feel for the woman who is having chemotherapy and who had to climb over a wall - that is just terrible. I hope these vandals are caught asap and severely punished for their criminal behaviour, regardless of age. None of the 'They're only kids' (if indeed it is young people doing this) - they know what they're doing, they know the distress their behaviour is causing.
