Thousands of people have been checking out online footage of the officers taking time to brave the dodgems at the Maiden of the Mournes Festival in Warrenpoint just a few weeks ago.
Not even the stern face of law enforcement could prevent the delighted children from targeting the officers' bumper car - especially when they were too busy laughing and holding onto their hats to avoid a few collisions.
"All the kids are going mad for them," a bystander laughed, as other young drivers gleefully revelled in the chance to ram the officers.
"One of those guys has been caught on a mobile phone ..."
Many of those commenting on the YouTube video said "fair play" to the officers for interacting with the community and embracing the fun spirit of the festival.
The officers are from Warrenpoint Neighbourhood Policing team.
The PSNI confirmed: "This is not Traffic Branch ..."
Despite some decidedly 'dodgy' driving, no arrests were made.
