NI Secretary of State Owen Paterson must give an "accurate and truthful account" of the dissident threat when he appears before the NI Affairs Committee in Westminister, a victims group has said.
Dissidents are expected to be high on the agenda when Mr Paterson is questioned by the committee in Westminster later on Wednesday.
The meeting will mark his first appearance before the committee since he took up his post in May.
Victims group Families Acting for Innocent Relatives (FAIR) say they hope any talk of discussion with dissidents will be condemned at the meeting.
"The innocent victims of terrorism in Northern Ireland hope that there will be discussion and criticism of any proposed negotiations with these republican terrorists," a statement from FAIR reads.
"We also hope that Owen Patterson will give an accurate and truthful account of the extent of the current threat."
Last month the NI secretary refused to confirm or deny that the government has made contact with dissident groups, following claims from Sinn Fein Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.
Mr Paterson is also expected to answer questions about how to deal with the legacy of past and the Bloody Sunday Inquiry.
The FAIR statement continues: "Dealing with the threat from so-called dissidents will show if the government are really committed to dealing with the future legacy of the continuing troubles.
"In other words the best way to help innocent victims now, is by ensuring that what happened during the troubles is not allowed to happen again."
