Two men have been arrested after Irish police found bomb parts in an operation targeting dissident republicans.

The discovery was made at a house in Clogher, Claremorris in Co Mayo on Saturday.

Explosive substances and component parts for bomb making were seized and two men, one in his late 20s and another in his 30s, were detained.

The pair have been taken to Castlebar Garda Station where they are currently being held under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939.

The area was sealed off for a time while army explosives experts carried out investigations.

It comes as part of ongoing investigations into dissident activity in the west.
