A stolen mechanical digger was crashed into the wall of a filling station shop near Dungannon, in what is thought to have been an attempted robbery.

Detectives believe the target was a cash machine at the premises at Ballygawley Road.

Due to the extent of damage caused to the wall of the building, it has not yet been established whether the machine was stolen.

The incident happened at about 3.30am on Monday.

The criminals used a tracked mechanical digger taken from road works close to the garage, which is near the end of the M1.

Anyone who noticed the digger in the forecourt of the garage or any other vehicles nearby is asked to contact police.
