Digger used in ATM robbery attempt
Thieves have used a digger in an attempt to steal an ATM machine in Co Armagh.

The incident happened outside a bank on Main Street in Keady at around 3am on Wednesday.

The would-be robbers used the digger to ram the wall of the bank, and then attempted to remove the cash machine.

They were forced to flee empty-handed and made their getaway in a silver-coloured Peugeot 406 car.

The vehicle was found burnt out by gardai in nearby Castleblayney.

Police in Armagh are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.

It is the 17th incident in Northern Ireland in recent months.

Last Friday thieves in Co Antrim launched a similar smash-and-grab attempt in the village of Kells, sparking widespread condemnation from local politicians and the traders representatives.
