A mechanical digger has been used in the attempted theft of a cash machine in Ahoghill, Co Antrim
A mechanical digger has been used in an attempt to steal a cash machine in Ahoghill, Co Antrim.

The raid took place early on Friday morning at a filling station on the Galgorm Road.

It is understood the gang failed to take the cash machine away.

It is believed the digger was stolen from a building site in Galgorm shortly before the raid.

Last week, a gang of men used a mechanical digger to steal a Northern Bank ATM in Ballygawley, Co Tyrone.

Since March there have been 14 thefts of ATMs across Northern Ireland.
