In an unusual move, the presidential hopeful ignored questions from host Miriam O'Callaghan and instead read out a statement revealing that further allegations had been made against her family.
"It has come to my attention that yet further allegations, this time of a most untrue, and malicious, vile nature, have been levelled against a member of my family," Ms Scallon said.
Earlier in the week Ms Scallon said that the press had become too intrusive and threatened that if this continued she would pull out of election altogether.
The former Eurovision singer is one of seven candidates to be formally nominated to run for the presidency.
Ms Scallon previously stood for the presidency in 1997 where she came third. She is also a former member of the European parliament.
Dana came to prominence as a 19-year-old from the Creggan who won the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1970, singing All Kinds of Everything.
Now aged 60, she is a Eurosceptic who has campaigned against abortion and for family values and is placing upholding the Irish constitution at the heart of her campaign.
Voters go to the polls on 27 October.
