DUP councillor attacked 'for 40th time'

The DUP has said its Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council representative Samuel Brush is the victim of a "sectarian campaign of hatred" after the latest attack on the councillor.

It is thought the DUP representative, who was shot in an IRA gun attack in Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone, in 1981, has been targeted 40 times.Sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning, it is believed a large heavy plant type vehicle was used to push Councillor Brush's car down Main Street in Ballygawley causing it to crash into another vehicle. The DUP has said it is the 40th attack on its member and comes exactly one week after a previous incident when damage was caused to his vehicle.Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA Lord Morrow has condemned the continuing attacks. He said: "This is the latest step in the sectarian campaign of hatred which required pre-planning and heavy machinery which could not have gone unnoticed."If those responsible are upping their campaign - which this clearly demonstrates - it's time PSNI and public representatives do likewise."This was a clear indication of the efforts of thug-elements to forcefully drive Councillor Brush out of his community."It will not succeed.""No doubt the law-abiding citizens of Ballygawley will be asking how this brutal campaign of blatant hatred can thrive in their area."Police have appealed for information.
