Fire crews were called out to the Diamond area after the Dunanney centre was petrol bombed at around 1am on Saturday.

A number of stones were thrown and a number of windows smashed.

Pat Hutchinson, who is the chair of the Dunanney centre, told UTV it is used extensively by the local community but has been left in an "absolute mess".

She said: "They petrol bombed the side of the centre and the top of the building is completely gutted... the smell and the dirt and the ceilings are down.

"There are 200 people who use this centre every day from babies to pensioners and the majority of those people come to the citizen's advice bureau and we are supposed to open on Monday again.

"It's an absolute mess."

Fire crews attended the scene of the blaze overnight and extinguished the fire.

The Fire Service says crews from Glengormley station used a hosereel jet and a covering jet to deal with the fire in the first floor of the property.

No-one is believed to have been injured during the incident.

Police are investigating and have asked anyone with more information to come forward.

Absolutely disgusted to hear that the dunanney centre was set alight, on 11th night, while everyone was enjoying festivities. The people of Rathcoole need to come out and stand together against these people who have taken a valuable resource, away from them. Disgusting.
