Coffee shop firm creates 70 jobs

A coffee shop firm is creating 70 positions in Northern Ireland.

The Newry-based BWL Group will create 20 jobs in a new O'Brien's site in Co Down, with the further 50 positions split between Derry and Belfast in two sites acquired for the group's newest brand Synge & Byrne.The jobs will be available in the coming months and will include both full and part time managers, kitchen staff and front of house servers.Around £250k in salaries and wages will be generated over the next twelve months, according to the BWL Group.The Synge & Byrne sites will be in Derry's Foyleside Centre, and Belfast city centre.The exact location of the new O'Brien's site will be revealed later this year with further sites planned in 2015.BWL has been trading for twelve years, the new positions will increase its employee total to 270 across its three businesses.Group Director Damien Garvey said: "This is an exciting year for us as we extend our company portfolio. O'Brien's is a recognisable Irish brand and we are confident that the new site will further reinforce our presence in leading shopping destinations."We launched our latest brand, Synge & Byrne in late 2013 in the Abbey Centre, and it is proving successful with a new audience of coffee connoisseurs who are enjoying its artisan approach. We have plans to acquire further O'Brien's and Synge & Byrne sites over the next several years."
