The attack happened in the Martin Green area of Shirgley on Thursday at around 2am.

Army bomb experts were tasked and found that a device had partly exploded causing damage to the front door of the property.

A man and a woman along with their two adult sons were in the house at the time, but they were not injured.

A few miles away, a red-coloured Renault Scenic was found on fire in a field on the Ringdufferin Road, Killyleagh at around 9.45am on Thursday morning.

The vehicle was destroyed by the fire.

Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who noticed a similar vehicle in the area or anyone who may have witnessed the car being abandoned and set alight.

They can be contacted on 0845 600 8000.
