Co Cork twin boys found stabbed to death

Gardaí have launched an investigation after two young brothers were found dead in Co Cork on Thursday evening.

It's understood the boys, both twins aged nine, were stabbed. They have been named locally as Thomas and Paddy O'Driscoll.Their bodies were found at around 5pm by another brother in a house in Deerpark in Charleville.Gardaí have requested the services of the Irish State Pathologists Office and the house has been sealed off for forensic examination. It is expected to remain sealed off until Friday.Meanwhile, gardaí are also investigating the discovery of a third male body in Buttevant in Cork. The man, aged in his early 20s, is believed to be the children's brother.Gardaí believe the deaths are connected. It's understood the boys' parents were not home at the time of the incident and are now being comforted by relatives.A local priest spent about two hours with family members during two visits in the hours after the deaths were discovered.Fr Tom Naughton of the Holy Cross Parish in Charleville said: "We prayed together. We comforted them and assured them, especially of the community here in the area, that we were with them."It's clear that anybody who suffers a tragedy is going to be upset and hurt at this time but it is quite raw."A large crowd of friends, members of the extended family and the local community gathered on the road outside the property for several hours after the discoveries.A long line of cars was parked next to nearby ditches on the closed roads.Gardaí said the two young boys who died were pronounced dead at the house and appealed for information."The bodies remain at the scene and the area has been sealed off for technical examination. Diversions are in place," said a Garda spokesman."The office of the State pathologist has been notified and post-mortems are expected to be carried out on Friday on the bodies of the two children."
