The company re-entered administration on Wednesday making 200 staff redundant UK -wide while hundreds more jobs are in jeopardy.

The closed stores are located at the Kennedy Centre, City Side, Castle Lane and Connswater in Belfast; Bloomfield and Flagship in Bangor, Newry, Omagh and Lisburn.

The chain had 16 branches in Northern Ireland.

In a statement released by BDO, the Joint Administrators, they intend to continue trading the remaining 28 outlets in the UK with a view to effecting a sale of all or part of the Company as a going concern.

James Stephen, business restructuring partner, said: "It is unfortunate that the economic climate and extremely difficult trading conditions have significantly affected the retail sector. However, we are hopeful of securing a sale of all or part of the Company, and will continue to trade the business whilst this is explored."

Bought a pair of trousers for my Son just before Christmas. He didn't like them so I took them back for a refund only to be told they didn't refund! When I took them back the shop at Crystal Peaks in Sheffield , was almost empty and just a few sales rails were left. When they offered me the gift card I commented at the time how empty if was and asked if they closing down. Their response was no, they were selling the stock off so that they could restock with the new seasons stuff after the new year. As there was nothing else in the shop I wanted I reluctantly accepted the gift card. How foolish was I? Been back today to spend the money on the card, not knowing about them going bust and was told by the shop assistants this was the case. Funny how it was the same staff, same items they sold before, the only difference was the name of the shop. Was told the gift card was now useless as the administrators had taken the original shop till and they had no way of knowing how much was on the card. The only thing they offered was to let me have the items I was buying today at half price. Sounds fishy to me that everything bar the name is identical. Looks as though they have got rid of all their debt and started up again. No way was I going to give them anymore of my money. Lost out on £30 on the gift card. Have got the number of the Administrators though and am going to give them a call.

Same has happened to me. Bought a pair of trainers before Christmas. didnt fit so bought them back to the store and got s 'gift card' with the amount transferred onto it. Went to spend in Jan sales and low and behold D2 in City Centre was closed, tried castle courts, also closed, tried Abbey Centre ... also closed!! Not a nice thing to do to people. Public should have been told and given prior warning to at least go and spend their well earned money which had been put on girft cards.

all D2 stores throughout the UK have now been closed according to the administrators therefore it seems the full facts of this case were not released to the media...also in the media there was no mention that customers would NOT be able to return their unwanted gifts or have their vouchers refunded if they were purchased before 28th December. the administrators have a lot to answer for in their handling of this

Ann & Paul, as far as I know the D2 store in Coleraine is still going. Not sure how convenient that is to you though. Happy New Year anyway! Look on the bright side - at least they aren't Woolworths vouchers. :)

@ Paul comment , same thing happened to me a few years back . Ordered a new kitchen from MFI worth £3770, paid £1500 deposit , foolish of me to pay by chq as I lost the whole deposit when they shut their doors,, administrators did'nt want to know , I feel for the staff that lose their jobs but top bosses have a lot to answer for staying open over a christmas period on false pretense.
