Civil servants have overwhelmingly supported a deal on back-pay offered by the Northern Ireland Executive.
Around 13,000 mainly female workers complained they were paid less than others on the same pay grade.
Finance Minister Sammy Wilson has agreed to pay £150m to settle cases before industrial tribunals and £25m to increase overall pay.
The Northern Ireland Public Service Alliance said 95% backed the offer. Rates of pay for some of the least well off will rise by nearly 30%, according to the group.
The union's general secretary John Corey said: "We welcome this very clear democratic decision of NIPSA members which fully endorses the union's recommendation to accept the equal pay offer negotiated with civil service management.
"This overwhelming vote in favour clears the way for NIPSA to proceed to settle these long outstanding equal pay claims for the lowest paid civil servants."
The NIPSA executive last month recommended members accept the deal.
