It happened at around 6.15pm in the Lisburn Road area on Friday evening.

A man went inside with the bottle and threatened the worker before hitting him, leaving him with a cut to his forearm.

Police described the attacker as being 30 to 35 years old and approximately 6 foot tall, of stocky build and wearing a dark blue hooded coat, blue jeans and white trainers.

Anyone with information has been asked to come forward.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in east Belfast, two men have stolen a sum of cash and a quantity of cigarettes from a convenience store.

The pair threatened but did not injure a staff member at the Dee Street store during the incident at around 8.25pm on Friday.

One of the men wore a navy track suit top with yellow writing across the front. The second man wore a dark hooded jacket and track bottoms.

Police have appealed for witnesses.
