Two men, armed with a knife and a firearm, entered the house in the Ashwood area of the town shortly after midnight on Wednesday and threatened the woman, who was at home with the children.

The house was searched and a number of items taken before the men made off on foot.

The first man was described as being in his early 20s, about 5ft 11in tall, of thin build and was wearing a peach coloured jumper. He was carrying the knife.

The second man was described as being in his late 20s, about 5ft 6in tall, stocky build. He was carrying the gun.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.

Dispicable crime .We need more police Since the Patton report and the demise of our Police service we need and demand more Police on our streets .I live in the Lurgan area and rarely do I see a Police Town beat patrol since 2002 I would say I could count on one hand the amount of times I have seen a Proper daily town beat patrol .They are no good in cars ,and armoured Landrovers get out amongst the community .talk to us .They now have introduced a fitness test for Police officers well what better way to keep fit than walking the beat.Walking the beat will pay massive dividends in many ways .The Public se them and can get some reassurance a Police patrol is active in the area, criminals will know this and maybe think again before committing a crime .Police chatting to local businesses , get amongst the Community .I AMA an x RUC officer and I can tell you from experience in the 70/80/ s I preferred the beat to a car , yes a vehicle is good for fast response but nothing beats the beat....and yes I also used the Pedal cycle ...often at night .... So let's get the Police on the beat .I fail to see why we don't have them since we have relative peace ... Surely in my day it was a lot more dangerous with the troubles yet we Policed the beats ...and I can assure u it was one of the best times in my career ...Bring back the beat cop.
