Charges over war memorial damage

Two men, aged 20 and 42, have been charged with criminal damage and disorderly behaviour after a war memorial was damaged in Newry, Co Down.

Two men were arrested after CCTV operators observed wreaths and crosses from the cenotaph at Bank Parade being thrown into a river at 12.20am on Sunday.

The 42-year-old man is also charged with indecent behaviour.

The pair are due to appear at Newry Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 4 June.

I think Sean could benefit from learning Irish history, if you've ever been through the Republic of Ireland you will see identical memorials in towns and on hilltops from Cork to Donegal. From the act of union in 1801 untill partition the whole island of Ireland was part of The United Kingdom, as such many Irishmen, both unionists and republicans from modern day N.I. and ROI, VOLENTEERED to serve before the crown. If you look into your family history you may even find that a distant relative fought in WW1.

Maybe if we banned alcohol things like this wouldnt happen... What is positive about our drinking culture? I can have a good night out with a water or a diet coke... Leave police to deal with real crime and hospital to tend to sick people...
