The business on Main Street in the Co Antrim town was raided in the early hours of Sunday and cash and a quantity of cigarettes were stolen.

A short time later police investigating the incident chased a car along the M2 motorway into Belfast, where a man was arrested after abandoning the car and taking off on foot.

Officers have now charged a 28-year-old man with burglary, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police and he is due to appear at Antrim Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

A spokesperson said: "As is normal procedure, all charges are reviewed by the PPS."
