Cannabis found at Chinese restaurant

A 54-year-old man appeared in court on Saturday morning over a £150,000 cannabis find at a Ballymena restaurant.

Appearing in the dock of the town's Magistrates Court, Wan Hon-Fai was accused of six charges relating to the raid at the Water Margin restaurant in the Co Antrim town on Thursday.The town centre premises was raided after police on patrol noted a strange smell coming from the Cullybackey Road building.The 54-year-old faces charges of possessing the Class B drug, possession of a class B drug with intent to supply and admitting production of a class B drug on premises.Wan Hon-Fai was releases on bail to reappear on March 13.Officers seized plants worth £150,000 at the popular Chinese restaurant and originally, three people were arrested after the PSNI operation. Police said a 50-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman were freed pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.Welcoming the seizure, PSNI Detective Chief Inspector Bob Blemmings said: "This is an example of excellent on-the-ground policing which has resulted in a large quantity of drugs being taken out of circulation."As well as being ordered to report to police weekly, the judge also ordered Hon-Fai to surrender his passport.
