Patrick Joseph McMahon, who is from the city, is accused of being involved in the raid on a security guard outside a shop on the Ormeau Road on Sunday.

He was arrested by PSNI Organised Crime Branch officers investigating the attack.

McMahon, 34, of Antrim Close, Belfast, is charged with robbing a courier of cash to the value of £25,000 and a cash box.

He faces two further counts of handling stolen goods, namely money and a Volkswagen Golf car.

Appearing with him at Belfast Magistrates' Court was Tracy McMahon, 27, of Torrens Avenue in the city.

She is charged with assisting offenders.

Patrick McMahon did not seek bail during the short hearing.

District Judge Fiona Bagnall remanded him in custody to appear again by video link on 10 October.

Tracy McMahon was already on bail. She was released to return to court again on the same date as her co-accused.

Police continue to question another man aged 45.
