The 17-year-old, who is autistic, was subjected to a brutal assault and was left for dead in the Laganbank Road area of the city in September 2012.

Police investigating the attack charged an 18-year-old man with attempted murder on Wednesday afternoon, and said he is due before Lisburn Magistrates Court on 2 June.

Scott was in hospital for six months following the vicious beating - during which he was repeatedly kicked in the head - and spent three of those months in a coma.

He now uses a wheelchair due to the extensive injuries he received.

Police are continuing to appeal for information about what happened and have asked anyone who may be able to help to contact them.
