Seven cattle have died during a blaze at farm in Banbridge, Co Down.

The fire sparked in a barn at the property on the Bann Road early on Tuesday, and the Fire and Rescue Service responded to a call at around 2.30am.

District Commander Spence said when crews arrived they found a "well-developed" fire in the bar, which was destroyed by the blaze.

Seven animals were killed in the fire at the property which is understood to be mainly a beef farm.

The roof of the building collapsed and a tractor and trailer were also destroyed.

District Commander Spence said it was an "upsetting" call and the farmer was "distraught".

It is thought the fire began due to an electrical fault.
