The incident happened on the Ormeau Road at around 8am on Sunday.

A man thought to have been carrying a gun threatened the guard before making off with a cash box containing a sum of money.

He was not injured but was left badly shaken.

Police described the attacker as being of stocky build, wearing a camouflage jacket and mask, and said he made off in a silver coloured car towards city centre.

A silver coloured Volkswagen car which police believe was involved in the robbery has been found in the Florida Street area.

Anyone with further information is asked to come forward.
