Carrick alert declared a hoax

A security alert in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim has ended.

A number of homes were evacuated following the discovery of a suspicious object in the Hawthorn Avenue area of the town on Wednesday afternoon.
Army bomb squad officers, who examined the object, have declared it to be a hoax.
Hawthorn Avenue has reopened to traffic and residents have been allowed to return to their homes.
