Officers said the 32-year-old's car has now been found at the Royal Court Hotel in Portrush - however they added that it is unclear whether he drove the car himself to the location.

A statement went on to explain: "Jonathan may be in the Portrush area, but police have also received sightings of him in Belfast."

Mr Bones went missing from the Carniny area of Ballymena, Co Antrim, last Wednesday morning and police and his family have become increasingly worried about his welfare.

He is described as being about 5'9" tall, of stocky build, with very short or shaved dark hair and he has tattoos on both arms. When last seen, Jonathan he was wearing a navy hooded top, dark blue tracksuit bottoms and black and white Nike Air Max trainers.

Police, renewing their appeal on Thursday, added: "Jonathan, or anyone who knows of his whereabouts, is asked to contact their local police station on the new non-emergency number 101."
