Police used CS gas to detain a man armed with a hurley stick, a can of petrol and a lighter in Feeny, after fire damage was caused to two PSNI vehicles.

Officers were called to a house in the Glenshane Road area of the Co Londonderry village at around 5pm on Saturday, following reports of a disturbance.

On arrival they spotted the armed 29-year-old in the garden.

Fire damage was caused to two police cars as police brought the man under control using CS Spray and arrested him.

He is currently in custody being questioned on suspicion of arson, having an offensive weapon and making threats to kill.
