Burglary suspect held after police chase

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in Belfast following a burglary at a Post Office in Portglenone, Co Antrim.

The raid at the premises on Main Street was reported at around 5am on Sunday - cash and cigarettes were stolen.
Around 20 minutes later a white Hyundai Classic car, believed to have been involved in the burglary, was spotted travelling on the Lisnavenegh Road in Ballymena.
Police pursued and as the car made off towards Belfast along the M2 motorway, it is believed a quantity of cigarettes were thrown from the vehicle.
At around 5.35am, the driver and passenger abandoned the vehicle in Tamar Street, east Belfast and made off on foot.
One man was subsequently arrested by police a short distance away in the Ravenscroft Street area on suspicion of burglary, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.
He remains in custody at this time assisting police with their enquiries.
