Burglary suspect held after police chase

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in Belfast following a burglary at a Post Office in Portglenone, Co Antrim.

The raid at the premises on Main Street was reported at around 5am on Sunday - cash and cigarettes were stolen.Around 20 minutes later a white Hyundai Classic car, believed to have been involved in the burglary, was spotted travelling on the Lisnavenegh Road in Ballymena. CHAR(13) + CHAR(10) CHAR(13) + CHAR(10)Police pursued and as the car made off towards Belfast along the M2 motorway, it is believed a quantity of cigarettes were thrown from the vehicle. CHAR(13) + CHAR(10) CHAR(13) + CHAR(10)At around 5.35am, the driver and passenger abandoned the vehicle in Tamar Street, east Belfast and made off on foot. CHAR(13) + CHAR(10) CHAR(13) + CHAR(10)One man was subsequently arrested by police a short distance away in the Ravenscroft Street area on suspicion of burglary, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.CHAR(13) + CHAR(10) CHAR(13) + CHAR(10)He remains in custody at this time assisting police with their enquiries.
